1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The project for energy generation "Energía Limpia Treinta y Tres" (ELTT) consists in the installation, running and operation of an electric energy generating power station based on forest biomass. The project follows regulations from Law Number 16.832 and decrees, particularly the regulation from the Electric Energy Wholesale Market (Decree Number 360/002). The plant will be connected to a UTE electrical network and through it will inject the energy generated to the national electrical system.

2 - COMBUSTIBLE TO BE USED

The plant is designed to work based on forest biomass. The main combustible to be used will be forest waste produced during harvest in the forest. This waste at present is a byproduct of the forest cycle, it is not used and is abandoned in the forest. For technical and economical reasons it is very important that the station works continuously. For that reason and due to harvest time in waste availability, variations in its humidity and climatic factors, many times there is not enough volume of waste to feed the boiler, it is necessary to use an alternative combustible. In this situation chips will be used, obtained from wood from forest enterprises developed in the area.

3 - ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS

The Project is based on the Mechanism for a Clean Development (Mecanismo para un Desarrollo Limpio) (MDL) included in Kyoto´s registry. MDL projects reduce harmful emissions and their objective is to promote sustainable development in the country where they are developed. The present ELTT Project has additional benefits from the use of forest waste present in the place of the harvest. Combustible It is estimated that among the branches, foliage and roots, 40% of the tree remains in the forest. That causes the following damage:

  • Risk of fire for spontaneous combustion (accidents have happened for this reason).
  • As a product of biological decomposition gasses are produced which pollute the air and produce bad smell.
  • Among gasses methane is mainly produced, contributing to the greenhouse effect and climatic change.
  • Presence of vectors (insects, rodents, birds, etc) which can produce harmful effects on population's health.
  • Pollution of superficial water and underground water by percolated liquids (liquids from the transformation process of pieces of wood and vegetal waste).
  • Waste from forest exploitation abandoned in the area prevents the formation of a herbaceous carpet diminishing risk of erosion (unlike what happens with agricultural waste left in the country acting as protection against soil erosion).
Ashes The use of forest biomass –waste, chips, rolls, pellets, etc.- has other advantages compared to other combustibles of vegetal origin like for instance rice hulls:
  • The combustion process is cleaner. Smoke from the chimney is clear and generally can not be seen easily.
  • The percentage of ashes is only 2% against 17% of rice hulls. In two plants with a similar power (12MW), the plant working with rice hulls produces 50 tons of ashes daily and the forest biomass plant 4 tons.
  • Ash from rice hulls has 94% of silica while in forest ash that component is inconsiderable.
  • Forest ashes can be used as additive to improve soil. Laboratory assays indicate that ashes from trees diminish the level of acidity and raise the level of some soil nutrients. As a consequence of this effect, the level of nutrients in cultivation is improved and production is considerably boosted.
Effluents Energy generation based on a vapor cycle fed with forest biomass, as it is the case of this Project, does not produce polluting effluents. Most of the water used in the generation process is returned to the environment as steam produced in the cooling towers.

4 - FORMAL ASPECTS

As previously mentioned, the Project follows regulations from law Number 16.832 and its decrees. On the other hand, the running of the plant requires previous authorization processing before the following:

  • Town Hall
  • The Executive
  • ADME
  • URSEA
  • UTE
  • DINAMA
  • DINARA
That guarantees the station will follow legal requirements for this kind of industrial activity.

5 - CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PROJECT TO NATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The ELTT Project will contribute to achieve many objectives of national interest:

  • a) Environmentally, the following aspects stand out:
  • b) Contribution to eliminate problems caused by forest waste abandoned in the forest (this has already been mentioned).
  • c) Replacement of electricity generated from fossil combustible –with associated pollution problems- through clean electricity generated through renewable resources.
  • d) Contribution to the mitigation of climatic change and generating carbon credits will provide the necessary funds for the project feasibility.
  • e) Contribution to the mitigation of climatic change and generating carbon credits will provide the necessary funds for the project feasibility.
  • f) Introducing a new supplier for the national electrical market through the generation of electricity from biomass with 100% renewable origin.

6 - BACKGROUND IN SIMILAR WORKS

The acquisition of equipment, work direction and running of the ELTT Project will be under the responsibility of a well-known company, XDT Ingeniería.

In the clean energy sector this company has the following background:

  • Building and running of the Liderdat Station (in Paysandú), based on forest biomass with a power of 5MW.
  • Building and running of Zenda S.A. Station (in Montevideo), based on natural gas with a power of 3,2MW.
  • Building and running of the Blue Blue Elephant Station (in Lavalleja), based on photovoltaic solar panels with a power of 50kW.

7 - DESCRIPTION OF FACILITIES TO BE BUILT

In general terms the plant will be built with the following components:

  • Conveyor belts and silos for reception, handling, storage and transportation of biomass to the steam generating boiler.
  • Chipping facilities Installations with Conveyor belts and silos.

Through its subsidiary DIALECA S.A., GRUPO GEN owns over 5500 hectares of mining property.
Highlighted activities include:
IRON MINE with 50 million proven tons of magnetite, high-quality premium iron, and probable reserves exceeding 300 million tons. All equipment for crushing, grinding, and beneficiation has been purchased, and preparatory work for the mine has begun.
QUARRY OF CRUSHED STONE. In the Durazno department, we were the main suppliers of crushed stone for the UPM 2 plant.
We carried out the extraction using our own equipment for excavation, loading, transportation, and crushing.
In addition to the aforementioned operations, our technicians are exploring significant and promising gold exploration projects in the Minas de Corrales gold district, where important discoveries have been made.

Gold – Zapucay

Introduction

DIALECA S.A. Is the owner of more than 5,000 hectares of mining property in the department of Rivera, Uruguay. Inside said mining property is a deposit of gold in quartz veins. The outcropping structure shows white quartz, sacaroid, with levels limonotizados, generating reddish colors, presence of masses of pyrite and visible gold.

On the surface, the best laws range from 2.5 gr / ton to 13 gr / ton. The previous perforations intercept high values of gold laws, but their location and structural interpretation, was not the most effective, reason why is left open any possibility of exploration in the area

Geology

The study area is located in the Department of Rivera, within the so-called Crystal Island of Rivera, which is characterized by granite facies consisting of granite-gneisses with garnet, grainy granulites, quartz-monzonite gneisses, leucogranitic gneisses, formations (BIFs), pyroxene fels with magnetite and metapiroxenites, and a volcano-sedimentary sequence of cover, which appears composed of sandstones, pellets and limestones, associated with pyroclastic rocks.

The box rock of this gold deposit consists of a gneiss with eyes of potassium feldspar, followed by a greenish-colored mafic rock, composed of pyroxenes and alkaline. Within the gneiss milonitized levels occur with presence of quartz, pyrite and gold, fundamentally. These levels correspond to shear zones, affected by normal faults, which causes displacements of the mineralizations. The colorations of mineralized quartz range from white to intense red, due to limonitic alteration of the pyrite and it is common to find visible gold in this type of samples.

HISTORY OF EXPLORATION

According to historical records, there was artisanal activity in the area, especially in the mines of Laureles. The proximity to these tasks indicates that the excavation that is in the place is of those years. As for established mining companies in the zone, the explorations were very scarce, or at least there is not much public data.

Iron – Cerro Papagayo

DIALECA S.A. (a subsidiary of GRUPO GEN) has begun civil construction and assembly tasks for the installation of crushing, grinding, and beneficiation equipment, as well as road construction and earthwork for the operation of the Iron Mine under Concession No. 619/20.
All environmental and mining permits have been granted.
All crushing and grinding equipment is already in the country, and the arrival of dry magnetic separation equipment is estimated for November 2023.
350,000 tons of beneficiated Iron Ore will be produced with an iron percentage of Fe>65%.

The reservoir to which we refer has been the object of repeated explorations and attempts at exploitation. Since the last century (Mastrande, 1916) he describes them very attractively saying that it is magnetite, psilomelana and wad that extend in several deposits around Cerros Papagayo, Cerro Picudo, Cerro Manganeso and Cerro Papagayo. At that time, 80 million tons of ore were estimated.

  • In 1910, 1912 the mining geologist Mr. J.D. Kendall prepared reports on the region.
  • In 1940 the engineer of the United States Bureau of Mines of the USA, Mr. W Wright prepared another report
  • In 1959, the Uruguayan Government, in cooperation with the United Nations, prepared a report entitled "Iron and Manganese Site of Uruguay" prepared by Mr. Benjamin Alvarado
  • In 1964 an expert report was prepared by Dr. Ing. R. Tschoepke and Dr. r. N a t. E. Therkauf on the possibility of economic exploitation of the mentioned deposit
  • In 1978, a study was carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Energy "IRON MINERALS IN THE REPUBLIC OF URUGUAY" prepared by Ing. Juan H Caorsi
  • Between 2010 and 2014 Gladiator Resources worked in the area and prepared a study to exploit the deposits and perform an industrial process for the manufacture of pig iron. Due to internal problems in the company added to the low of the price of the Iron, they made that the company desist from the abandoned project the mining properties
  • In all the antecedent reports a series of deposits is found in a sequence of NW-SE direction hills that are in isolated outcrops constituted by prominences called: Cerro Papagayo, Cerro Picudo, Cerro Manganeso and Cerro Papagayo

Geology

According to the geological map of Uruguay at 1: 500 000 scale (V2.0, 2001), the area is located in a south-central sector of the so-called Isla Cristalina de Rivera, which is part of the so-called Nico Pérez Terrane, . The Valentines Formation (ASv), is the most representative of the area. It is formed by a metamorphosed sedimentary volcano sequence that basically includes granitic gneisses, and in less abundance are pyroxenites, iron quartzite and limestone. The granites, present in almost all the area, have a protomilonítica foliation very well marked, with preferential course NW and low angle dip for NE between 10-50 degrees

The main lithologies are:

  • Undifferentiated gneiss.
  • Intrusive mafic.
  • Banded gneiss.

Ironstones. The iron quartzites correspond to Banded Iron Formation (BIF) sequences with a composition based on 40% quartz, 33% magnetite and 25% pyroxenes. This lithology is very abundant in the study area, although the entire Crystalline Island of Cuñapirú - Vichadero, presents these lithologies with relative frequency.Intrusive felsic

Background results

The above results indicate positive signifiers with a mean of 61% DTR Fe, in the current mining property of GRUPO GEN (area greater than 2000 hectares in the area), estimated more than 50 million Tons of Iron ore, with a probability of multiplying Such reserves to more than 500 million tons, within the current mining property and estimating in a radius of 80 kmts reserves for more than 3000 million tons.
